What works

Everything. The game runs well, no mouse thread crap anymore. Even autopilot location assignment runs fine now.

What does not

Nothing, but performance dropped quite noticeably from 1.3.28 to 1.3.29. I'm compiling wine from git now but usually I'm still just pulling from release to release, and a reset to .28 solved the problem, so I know a commit in the middle must be the cause. :)

 

Oh right, it sometimes crashes at login. Not if the mouse cursor is left outside of the window during said login.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Beats me. Probabbly nothing. Install, patches, runs. Makes you addicted (it's a custom shard based upon UO 5.0.2b)

Additional Comments

Gold just because of the performance drop, else it would be a Platinum (a moving platinum, when I started playing this wine was in beta, and minor annoyances aside, it was already better than when run with Windows!)

Problems with mouse

This can be solved for some clients by setting "MouseThread=off" in every uo.cfg (there are many for each character and one global).

Problems running uo.exe

You can safely use client.exe for the game and run uopatch.exe from time to time manually.

Connecting to free shards

You have to disable encryption for your client:

1. Either you can find already patched client for your shard (browse the shard forums). And you can run it like the normal one (tested by Plague).
2. Or you can patch the client yourself using UO Rice (some say this can be only done on Windows and before any patching) and then run the patched client. (suggested by sk8dork, not tested by Plague).

This bug was fixed in Wine a long time ago.

 If you're playing Ultima with an old Wine version and you feel this bug is affecting your gameplay experience, please upgrade to a newer version of Wine (wine-1.3.28 being the best until now).
