What works
Steam Client for Windows on Wine:
Download SteamSetup.exe in ~/Downloads
Start winetricks
Create new wineprefix, arch=64bit, make-up-a-name
winetricks returns inside the newly made wineprefix (check this)
Run explorer, navigate: My Computer > c:\users\username\Downloads\SteamSetup.exe
Open SteamSetup.exe, download, install and Log In into Steam, steamguard might pop up
Look up Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, download and install (Play)
When Yu-Gi-Oh! install is complete and starts, you might get an Authentication error, just close and restart Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links. (Had that in Win10 with Steam too)
Restart, initiate, downloading Hi-Res card images can take a while.
Get Your Game On!
What does not
The whole game seems to work OK, but one thing:
Losing focus / changing focus / clicking mouse out of the very window that runs Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links renders the left mouse button useless for that very Yu-Gi-Oh! window only.
(Mouse was OK in the rest of the OS)
Workarounds
Workaround consists of DONTs:
Don't alt-tab, Don't click other windows, just Don't do other menus etc. and it kept playing fine until I was satified and closed the window by myself (1hour+)
Lost focus of the window? Close game, restart game. no need to close Steam client too.
Or go full screen:
To avoid clicking outside the game window at all and losing window focus, you can set Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links settings to match your resolution (effectively fullscreen) and/or set to fullscreen.
These settings are avaiable on the Initiate Link (blue welcome screen) on starting up the game.
What was not tested
Adding fonts, DLLs or components or changing settings with winetricks within the same wineprefix where the Steam client for Windows with added Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links were installed.
(read about possible dotnet45, but it grabbed MSVC13 by itself when installing the game, that worked)
Hardware tested
Graphics:
Additional Comments
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links automatically installed MS Visual C++ 2013 Redist. v12.0.30501.0, both x64 AND x86
When Yu-Gi-Oh! install is complete and starts, you might get an in-game Authentication error, just restart or close Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links. (Had that in Win10 with Steam too)
Occasionaly in-game red screen 'app reboots' occur. (Had that in Win10 with Steam too)
These two glitches ALSO exist in Win10 with Steam and don't seem to be Wine related.
Why try? Steam client for Windows on Wine:
YuGiOh is made for Steam with Windows support
A Linux native Steam (with proton) didn't work for me
Windows native Steam on Wine did work for me, finally
OpenSUSE Leap 15.2 KDE, with a bunch of extras:
YaST Software search for wine shows that OpenSUSE Leap15.2 comes with wine 5
get wine 6.23 (and dependency winetricks 20210825) by adding the OpenSUSE Emulators repo in YaST Software by specific url:
downloaddotopensusedotorg/repositories/Emulators/openSUSE_Leap_15.2/
