The Settlers IV Demo V1.06.811 (Demo build 03072143) Played the demo map for 2 hours until it crashed with an mss32.dll error: Exception 0xc0000005 at 0x211147fc! S4_Main.exe (time stamp 0x3aa6ab6a) caused an access violation exception in module mss32.dll This game crashes on Windows often too so some crashes are expected.

HOWTO

It is strongly recommended to use WIne version 0.9.15 or earlier.

To make the game work, do the following

  • If the game crashes when starting play, edit 'Config/GameSettings.cfg' in the directory where you installed the game, and set 'LandscapeHardware' to 0 (run the game first to generate it)
  • If you intend to play multiplayer, start 'winecfg' and add a DLL override so that 'Exe/S4_Main.exe' used native 'msvcrt' (this can be done with winecfg). msvcrt is installed with the game
