What works

- Install

- Denoise preview

- Saving denoised images

- Denoise "compare" feature

- Auto brightness adjustment feature

- GPU acceleration (tested w/ NVIDIA proprietary 470.94 x86_64, CUDA Version 11.4, GTX 1080 Ti and verified with nvidia-smi GPU Usage %)

- (Everything that I tried basically works after workarounds)

What does not

Workarounds

- Requires vcrun2019

- DLL override native for concrt140.  concrt140.dll version 14.27.29112.0 works; download off popular DLL site and place in Topaz executable folder.  (The concrt140 that comes with vcrun2019 for some reason just doesn't work and refuses to load).

- If you get a COM error about RoGetActivationFactory, try latest wine staging.

- If you get errors about concurrency functions not being implemented (_Cancellation_beacon, etc...), make sure native concrt140 is being used.

- The AI model download feature doesn't seem to work, so I had to copy the models from an existing Windows installation. Unfortunately there are many different AI models for both the CPU and GPU, so it may be necessary to download all these on a working Windows installation first. The models are in C:\ProgramData\Topaz Labs (LLC)

- At least for me, the AI model load directory is fixed to Z:\tgrc where Z:\ is my root volume (/) so I had to copy the models to /tgrc. I haven't looked into whether it's possible to load the models from elsewhere.

What was not tested

- Batch denoising/saving

- Downloading denoising models (I copied the AI models from an existing Windows installation where they had already been downloaded; the download feature doesn't seem to work)

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary
