Very little differs from the released version of KOTOR v1.00 and it's patch 1.03 as it's patch consists of fixes to the game itself.

What works

Install from CD/DVD

Loading the game

Introduction (Prologue)
Game Play

Note: Need to add swkotor2.exe to applications list, set to run in virtual desktop (just like The Elder Scrolls Oblivion),

For swkotor2.exe I added d3d8(native, builtin), d3d9 (native, builtin), dsound (native, builtin). You may not need d3d8, or dsound, I just added those after I got it to run with only d3d9 (native) added, then changed it to d3d9 (native, builtin).

Unchecked Allow DirectX apps to stop mouse from leaving their window (I like to be able to answer chats etc while in window mode). Emulate desktop 1280x1024 if desktop is 1600x1200 etc. Hardware Vertex Shader Support, and Allow Pixel Shader Checked

I always keep ALSA checked.

Regedit Tweaks:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Wine > Direct3D (if you don't have a Direct3D key add it by right clicking on Wine folder New > Key Value)

After selecting Direct3D right click on right side of screen/window add these new string values and modify value data.

Key Name Data Value
DirectDrawRender opengl
OffScreenRenderingMode pbuffer or fbo
UseGLSL enable
VideoMemorySize 256 (your vidcard ram size)*

*Do NOT add "(your vidcard ram size)" to the value, I was stating to add YOUR video ram size to this value.

What does not

I have not found anything that does not work. Game will run choppy unless you disable Ubuntu desktop special effects. There is a bash script floating around to disable effects and launch this game in a new console. I never could get it to work right though, check the thread at Ubuntu Forums here.

What was not tested

Running game in fullscreen mode.

Additional Comments

I give this a Silver because there are some minor tweaks to make, it does not run "out of the box". The game runs extremely choppy without really tweaking everything from your desktop environment, and possibly running a bash script to fix it. It is Silver borderline Gold, I was impressed with 0.9.50 release so far. This game is definitely NOT garbage under Ubuntu 7.10, I would assume it works in i386 build since I'm running it in amd64 build.
