What works

  • Seems to install install fine but definitely requires "winetricks corefonts" and "wine d3dcompiler_47" to be run on the new prefix to work
  • Creates a desktop icon
  • Logging in works
  • Exploring the library
  • Downloading a game 
  • Desktop Icons are created

What does not

  • Needed to launch "EADesktop.exe" from the command line as icon and menu entries didn't work.
  • Wine 7.21 (blank prefix) throws backtrace.
  • For Slackware users "cabextract" needs to be installed on your system. You can get the a SlackBuild from SlackBuilds.org to install the fonts.
  • Bejeweled 3 doesn't launch but that's probably because of suitable hardware (I can seem some Vulkan related stuff in console output)

Workarounds

  • Requires "winetricks d3dcompiler_47" (cf. Bug 54040)

Problem with older Games

Odler games, like Red Alert 2 fail to launch. EA App says it needs to be elevated (probably rights elevation) to run them, does something and then shows an error message. There does not seem to be a way to launch the game. At least I did not find a workaround.

Can I investigate this further somehow? Or is this a known problem?
