Wherigo Builder

What works

I tested the following things, all of which worked well:

• changing and saving settings
• opening existing cartridges
• saving cartridges
• compiling .gwc files
• importing images
• creating zones

What does not

I couldn't install the program out of the box.

Workarounds

The program didn't install out of the box for me. To install and run the program, I followed these steps:

1. Make sure your wine version is up to date (at least 8.0). The default version in ubuntu packages will not work.
2. Install and update winetricks:

   sudo apt-get install -y winetricks && sudo winetricks --self-update

3. Create a new Wine environment using winetricks, using 32 bit architecture (or with the following command)

   WINEPREFIX="~/.local/share/wineprefixes/Wherigo-builder" WINEARCH="win32" winecfg

4. Install .NET 4.8 using winetricks (GUI or the following command)

   WINEPREFIX="~/.local/share/wineprefixes/Wherigo-builder" winetricks dotnet48

5. Finally, install the Wherigo Builder itself:

   WINEPREFIX="~/.local/share/wineprefixes/Wherigo-builder" wine msiexec /i ./BuilderInstall.msi

What was not tested

I did not try to fix any issues caused by no longer existing online services.

I also only extensively tested the features mentioned above.

Additional Comments

There are some features that will not work, neither using the native Windows version nor using Wine. For example, creating a zone from an address makes use of a yahoo API that is no longer online. The reason for this is the very old software build that, there has been no update since 2008.
