What works

Just about everything.

To be quite honest, Wine probably even pushed the application to do more than it could do in Windows XP. I did not get any errors on low RAM, and I have only 1GB of it, and I was making a file that was 6000x9000.

What does not

The font selector is a bit buggy, if you try to type in the name of the font it will go to the first font of the first letter you entered, select it, and go with it. This is rather annoying.

Can crash randomly, but the frequency is very low than that of Windows.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Eye candy and Alien filters.

Additional Comments

The beautiful thing about Linux is that it isn't big and clunky like Windows, and Linux usually comes installed with a separate SWAP partition just in case you are running out of RAM. While Windows does this as well (but doesn't use a partition for it), Windows just doesn't work when you are trying to create massive files with Fireworks. But with Linux, the case is different. There are also some random freezes and glitches, but it's nothing serious as long as you save your work every hour or so (you should be saving it every minutes no matter what the case). I'm absolutely thrilled to say that I no longer have to go back into my Windows partition to use my graphic design suite. It even outperforms Windows. Who would of thought?

HOWTO: Make png files open with fireworks

This no longer works with newer versions of wine

ok, if you want to make your png files open with Fireowrks by default, heres hwo to do it.

1 - Get the launcher details for Fireworks, it should look something like this

env WINEPREFIX="/home/~user~/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Fireworks 8\Fireworks.exe"

you will need to change ~user~ to you username, eg madnessred. If you are unsure please look at the bottom of this post for an alternative mthod to find it out.

2 - Once you have got your launcher details right click on a png file, slect "Open with > Open with other application"

3 - Where it says "|> Use a custom command", click that

4 - A box will appear, in that paste the custom launcher information and press open. Now fireworks will open with that file. Clsoe fireworks. Now when you double lick to open a png it will open with fireowrks.
