What works

Played through the intro for about an hour

What does not

Frame pacing issue

Workarounds

  • After installation, the default executable links to the launcher, which can sometimes crash while managing settings. Most of these options are available in the game itself, so launching the executable directly may be a safer option until you gain control of the character after the opening cutscene and can access the option menu.
  • The frame rate seems to be governed by multiple processes that want to fight each other and cause choppy performance. What I found worked best was disabling v-sync, setting frame rate to 'unlimited,' and using an external program to limit frame rate instead (strangle, through Lutris; the Mint 21 default compositor handles frame pacing smoothly).
  • While I did get the main executable running through WINE 8.12 development branch, I ended up doing most of the testing through WINE-GE-Proton 8-8 while troubleshooting the frame rate problem. I accidentally left set like that for the rest of the time after getting a smooth frame rate.
