Selected Test Results

What works

  • Creating new HarmonyOS projects
  • Editing files
  • Browsing the IntellIJ plugin catalog (which means network connection is working file)
  • Install the HarmonyOS SDK for C/C++-based projects
  • In-app upgrade to DevEco Studio 3.0.0 beta

What does not

  • The DevEco splash screen blocks all windows
  • GNOME's window titlebar conceals the custom titlebar used in DevEco Studio (and possibly other IntellIJ-based IDEs)
  • Unable to download HarmonyOS Previewer (Simulator) as well as SDK for JS/eTS/ArkTS-based and Java-based projects (only C/C++ can be installed successfully) due to HTTP request timeout

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • Installing IntellIJ plugins
  • Running apps in Previewer/Simulate*
  • Running apps with real device*
  • Build app*

*due to uninstallable SDK components

Additional Comments

  • This app MUST be installed on a 64-bit Wineprefix
  • You will also need to install Git and Node.js separately, which are not bundled by the installer
    • Git is currently rated as Bronze or even Garbage, but these reviews came from an older version of WINE (1.x - 4.x)
    • Node.js is currently (as of 2023-09-08) not yet reviewed in AppDB
  • Tested using Windows environment set to Windows 10
  • Tested using unclean 64-bit Wineprefix (i.e. with other third-party programs already installed) following library overrides for:
    • *mscoree (native)
    • *mscorwks (native)
    • msftedit (native, builtin)
    • msxml (native, builtin)
    • netapi32 (native, builtin)
    • riched20 (native, builtin)
    • riched30 (native, builtin)
    • richtx32 (native, builtin)
    • vb6run (native, builtin)
  • Note that DevEco Studio may eventually or may not work well without those overrides, so these are declared by the tester to consider possible bias in testing
