What works

Old version of the game launcher.

Single-player.

All DLCs.

What does not

The latest version of the Paradox launcher after updating the game launcher.

Sometimes there is a small black square artifact that will appear for a fraction of a second on the game map when scrolling or zooming in/out.

Workarounds

Install the latest version of Winetricks (https://github.com/Winetricks/winetricks) and run the command in terminal:

winetricks d3dcompiler_47 d3dx9_43 vcrun2022

DirectX9 (d3dx9_43) needs to be installed or the mouse cursor's selection box for units will not be visible.

Set Windows Version to Windows 10 in winecfg.

Run "dowser.exe" in the game folder once before running the game, or otherwise the game will just load into a black screen with only the mouse cursor visible.

What was not tested

Achievements.

Connecting to and using the in-game online cloud saving and cloud scoreboard features.

Multiplayer.

Installing or playing with mods.

Additional Comments

Game version: Stella Polaris v1.13.4.0735 (15a3)

HOI4 is a 64-bit app and needs a 64-bit wineprefix to work. 32-bit wineprefixes do not work.

DirectX10 or DirectX11 installed with Winetricks did not work in my test runs.

The game launcher will automatically update to the new, broken version of itself unless it can't connect to the internet.
