What works
Nothing that I needed to work.
What does not
I use Word Viewer 97 as a last resort when AbiWord and OpenOffice.org won't display an MS Word document correctly, so I don't use it very often. It used to work several versions of WINE ago, but it didn't work when I needed it earlier. This is the console output I got when I ran it:
$ wine wordview.exe
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_GetDeviceCaps (0x1d8): CAPS1 is unimplemented, will return 0
fixme:ntdll:NtCreatePort (0x17c96c,0x33ee0c,204,256,(nil)),stub!
err:ole:RPC_StartRemoting Couldn't register endpoint L"\\pipe\OLE_0000000800000009"
fixme:ntdll:NtQuerySystemInformation (0x00000021,0x17d110,0x00000010,0x33edd4) stub
fixme:ntdll:NtQuerySystemInformation (0x0000002d,0x194858,0x00000020,0x33edd4) stub
...
fixme:volume:GetVolumeNameForVolumeMountPointW (L"C:\\", 0x1ad8c8, 32): stub
This is what I happened when I tried to reinstall Word Viewer:
$ wine wd97vwr32.exe
Could not load 'SHELL.DLL' required by 'BOOTSTRP', error=2
Workarounds

Installation only seems to hang!
During install the setup seems to hang when "searching for installed components"
Just get yourself a coffee and let it alone. Setup will continue.
