This description from this link sums it up the best: It doesn't need any support because it's bulletproof and it's still available for download from It's the best email client on earth. The Calypso Email Client supports unlimited POP3 and IMAP4 accounts for an unlimited number of users. Its features include a configurable window layout, complete with dockable toolbars; a spelling checker; an automatic response option; offline mode; a local delete option that leaves the message on the server; and Web browser integration. MIME, BinHex, and UUencode attachments are supported. Other features include a three-way view that shows folders and messages, a configurable main window layout, configurable and dockable toolbars, filters, LDAP directory search capabilities, an address book, mouse wheel support for Windows 9x, and more. Version 3 introduced HTML support, automatic address completion, new message searching, a filter distribution list, V-cards, message templates, the JunkYard antispam filter, a PGP plug-in, and multilanguage spell checking. Version 3.30 updates include time and chaos integration, address groups, improved mail list management, message locking, improved filtering, automated sub-folders, filter exclusions and hands-free backup.

What works

Able to install the Calypso.exe setup file without any hassles. Used Winefile to find the .exe setup and clicked and ran it. Able to access existing e-mail accounts with no problem. One will need to make sure to set the connection to a "local area network." This is done by going to Mailbox->Properties->Online/Offline(a Tab) and selecting "Connect to a local area network." Successfully viewed an e-mail attachment with pictures. It downloaded the "VML for viewing", installed it, and able to view the pictures. I think this uses IE in the window to view the pictures with the e-mail attachments. Able to print e-mails to printer. Able to copy text from other programs and pass along to an e-mail being composed in Calypso. Able to copy a link in a Calypso e-mail and post into browser (Opera) in Linux. Able to search e-mails and view returned results. Mailbox recovery worked after closing Wine without closing Calypso first. HTML e-mails load with no problem and view with no problems.

What does not

Calypso divides the e-mail windows into three parts. The icons appear next to the e-mails in the e-mail window. However, the heading for that windows are not too clear. A resolution issue as opposed to a rendering issue? The icons for the folders for an e-mail box do not appear.

What was not tested

Creating a new account.

Additional Comments

This program is being replaced by Courier 3.5. See this link for more details: I will be downloading it and see if it works with Wine as well. I do hope this e-mail client will be ported to Linux.
