C64DebugGUI

Possibly the last version of this to be released, as RetroDebugger has a lot of the same functionality.  However, several YouTuber's still use C64DebugGUI in their demonstrations, so it's nice to have a working version to follow along with disassembly projects.

What works

All tested functions/options appear to work.

What does not

For some reason, the main GUI's MDI interface always has a blank area at least one titlebar high at the top that is not present on Windows.  It will appear to be two titlebars high when it is not drawing its own MDI titlebar (which also doesn't appear in Windows, from what I've witnessed in videos).

Workarounds

You must install .Net 4.8 to run this.

  1. Create a new prefix:
    • winetricks arch=32 prefix=c64debuggui
  2. Install .Net 4.8:
    • WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/wineprefixes/c64debuggui winetricks dotnet48

(Note, this runs two installers... so let both finish)

  3. Decompress the app's zip to a directory and CD into it.
  4. Run the app:
    • WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/wineprefixes/c64debuggui wine C64DebuggerGUI.exe

What was not tested

Loading/saving functionality.  I only tested that the dialogs appear; I do not expect any issues with the functionality.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary
