Additional Comments

I had a graphics problem (either black screen, or weird graphics if tweaking the D3D as described in previous options). I checked out and downloaded the unofficial patch, then chose "Glide - Voodoo compatible" in the Crocrun.exe. Then I added special config for croc.exe in winecfg, "d3d9" as "integrated" in the libraries (NOT native, it does not work). Launch in any desired resolution, and voilà, it works. Not sure if all the previous tweaking helped (dgVoodoo, Zeckensack's glider or nGlide: -last tested, did not work by itself) had any influence on the success of the patch upgrade. If the patch alone does not work, maybe you could try the last one (nGlide), and THEN the patch upgrade?

HowTo / Notes

2020-08-14 Admin note: This does not seem to be needed any more, but has been kept for posterity

2014-10-23 Admin note: the following was extracted from a user comment made in October, 2013, and may not be relevant to current Wine. Follow at your own risk.

A two-byte patch seems to fix the problem with keyboard control options not being saved.

Use a hex editor like okteta to open croc.exe and change two bytes at offset 0x1B715 from 0x04,0x50 to 0x00,0x90.

Multiple versions
by Chris Wyatt on Sunday January 19th 2020, 15:48
I've renamed this version to '1.0 (D3D)' as I've discovered there are at least 2 versions of this game. Both are referred to as 'version 1.0' in the README.txt file. I haven't yet checked to see if this version info is elsewhere (in case they simply forgot to update it in the README.txt file). I decided to change this to the newer version, as I assume most people have probably been running the newer version. Also, the latest test results appear to be for the D3D version.
