To avoid starting problems caused by SafeDisc v1 (which is the protection used in this game), it should be removed. One can use Unsafedisc 1.55 which is freely available on the internet. Instructions: put FS2000.ICD, FS2000.EXE and DPLAYERX.DLL from the game folder in a separate folder, run Unsafedisc and select FS2000.ICD. A testme.exe will be created; rename it to FS2000.EXE and copy it in the original game folder.

Admin note: the information below was extracted from an old user comment; it may or may not be relevant to currrent Wine.
You need to set WinVer to "Windows 2000" (Winecfg) for the media validation to work (SafeDisc 1.3).
The game also needs MFC42 library -> "winetricks mfc42"
Tested with Wine 1.3.21
