What works
Sound, Music, 3D graphics, the game itself, mainly the important parts work. The game had good frame rates and in the simulation there was no distortion or garbage on the screen.
What does not
Intro movies are distorted, game did crash in diplomacy screen and it did crash once upon starting the game. This game DID NOT RUN with the open source ATI driver, the newest Fglrx driver works just fine, although on the main menu theres a little bit of "garbage" on the screen but nothing out of control.

Additional Comments
This game would have gotten a gold rating if it didn't crash on me. But it is still VERY playable.

The configure script didn't complain about dependencies except those needed for scanning, digital cameras and ISDN.
The installation of the game was OK, the intro movies also worked well, but when I got to the screen where I could choose what do I want to do (multiplayer / single player / tutorial / etc.) it got unreasonably slow.
Setting to low-quality didn't solve my problem.
My hardware is much more powerful, then the recommended in the readme.
I got the following messages in the terminal:
