What works

Game installs from CD-ROM fine, but requires the official patch and no CD executable to be applied.

The game is playable, but text rendering is messed up which can make navigating the menus difficult.

What does not

Text rendering in game (on menus like those under options, or once finishing a race) are corrupted and difficult to read. You can still interact with them however and the game will continue without a problem.

The original executable binary also does not work due to a DRM requirement from SafeDisc; this means a fixed "no CD" executable is required.

Workarounds

Locate a fixed "no CD" executable online and replace the Midtown.exe file.

You'll also likely want to apply a patch; there is the final official patch from Microsoft called "mmpat.exe", or a fan made patch which is available via PCGamingWiki. I only used the official Microsoft patch in this test, it is likely the fan made patch would also fix the text rendering bug.

Additional Comments

The installation media I used was a European retail re-release CD-ROM by XPLOSIV.
