Everything i was able to test. But you have to launch the game via "Network Quickstart" otherwise it crashes on start. This must be a video codec oder directx media problrm as the only difference between a normal start and network quickstart is the intro video is not shown with network quickstart and the game starts in the "start network game" submenu rather then the standard "main menu". You can "esc" back to main menu and can do everything you can do from there. The Game has copyprotection and needs it's cd but no crack is needed for WINE. I don't know what kind of copyprotection it has. Maybe someone can find out and add this information to the WINE documentation which copy protections are supported. Network Play requires this http://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlayGames . Without you only get a "link device not found" message. I checked TCP IP via an PPTP VPN with me as the server to a friend of mine with a Windows XP machine and it works fine.
What does not
The normal start because showing the intro video crashes wine as stated above. The crack. I have the original but wanted to play without cd. With crack i can't start game because the video configuration screen loops. I got it working with a trick but then the game downgrades to a network installation. Toca2 allows client installs as much as you want. But these are restricted to network games where they can only be a client. I know, this is not the place for cracks. But before someone submits a test for a cracked version i thougt i schould give this info. The background picture in the car-setup and race-start menu. This works in 1.0.1 but not in 1.1.17. I use the stable 1.0.1 for the game and deleted the 1.1.17 for now. To be true. I wait for the stable 1.0.2. Why does it take soooooooo long?
What was not tested
IPX, SERIAL and MODEM Network play because i have no modem or serial cable and i havn't installed ipx on my debian lenny machine and till now i don't know how to. The endsequence. This is a video just like the intro and because the intro video crashes i suppose the endsequence video will crash too. I never reached this yet.
The graphics don't look as nice as in Windows 98 and they are not as fast. But in exchange the game no works even in a window :-)
