Tested in hp dv5 1140ep with ATI HD 3450 Wine version 1.2.2 Rome total war version 1.0 For the installation if there are more than 1 dvd or image, extract all images on the same folder. problems: graphical problems Add the executable in wine config, chose win xp, in graphical options, select the options 2,3 and 4, in the emulation of virtual screen: 1024x800, direct 2d: suport vertex: material, disable the next option about shadows. In the game - options, video settings, 1024x768x32 in the all options, enable show advanced options, put the lowest option in the respective graphical options, disable shadows and high quality shadows. Enter the game, when you are in the game, the graphics are normal, the problem seems only in the initial screen.

HOWTO

If you have any problems with playing Rome, you should try this:

Use the lowest graphic settings, because one of them crashes the game
Type wine regedit in a terminal. Then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Wine / Direct3D or create it if it doesn't exist. Now you have to add two new keys.DirectDrawRenderer with the string value opengl and VideoMemorySize with the string value of you graphic memory size, for example 512 or 256.

If you want to post a test please write in it, if you have an ATI/AMD,Nvidia,or any other graphic card, because they can cause different problems
