I've messed around with rc2 and rc3, and they didn't work out for me. I got some results by messing around with xorg.conf -- you can e-mail me if you want details.

The program is now functioning under DirectX configuration, be it ever so slow. It also functions under OpenGL with 2-Dimensional chessboards.
Let me also say that I had installed xserver-xgl because of problems with window decorations under compiz-fusion prior to the wine 1.1.2 upgrade.
