I'm using Wine 1.3.19 and ATI Card with Catalyst drivers.
by Frédéric Delanoy on Monday May 30th 2011, 10:33
Although this is probably due to poor video drivers quality; try to upgrade your drivers or use a nVidia card if you have a spare.
by Zainin (Paul) on Monday May 30th 2011, 10:39
However I've managed to fix this by changing DirectDrawRendering to 'gdi'.

It's the same problem, as soon as an enemy appears for a battle to start, the game crashes.
At home I'm running the same wine (I'm pretty sure), same settings, and it never crashes.

One other difference: on my box at home, I run as a non-root user, but need to do this prior to running the game:
chmod 666 /dev/nvidia*
At work I run it as root.

I would still like to understand the original problem though, if possible. Direct rendering support says it is OK (i.e. the grep returns "direct rendering: yes"). Checking the Xorg log gave no errors but a few warnings...

"fixme wave wodplayer_reset shouldn't have headers left"
nothing more happens, and the console shows the normal prompt.

I then used the recommended set-up in the Infinity Engine Games tutorial...I think the idea is to mount all 3 game CDs in different places. But how do I tell Wine that I now have 3 CD drives?

The thing is the testers write Multiplayer isn't working, but noone opens/links a bug for this Problem.
