Scanning, opening pdfs, saving.
NOTE ON INSTALLATION: SEE FEDORA CORE 4 NOTES (TRY & BUY FOLLOWED BY FULL VERSION)
Since I changed the installation directory (I have trouble with panel starters when the path has spaces), the full install put all the language files into the long winded default ABBYY FineReader 8.0 Prof......etc etc. Just copy into main directory of installed directory.
What does not
Page/scanning display, closing batch, closing program.
The pages all appear black, except when zoomed to 600% or more. Scanning works but you can't see the words (correctly identifies blocks and text). Scan preview is very messed up as well (each word bundled on itself - very weird). However, if you trust the image quality of the text and FineReader's OCR engine, there isn't a real problem - the saved PDFs turn up fine. This assumes no picture or table problems, of course.
Reading is still pretty quick, but not like in Windows.
I'll put fixme: and debug info in the comments.
What was not tested
More advanced functions, batch processing.
Self-compiled 0.9.24 on Ubuntu (with all optional libs installed).
