Icewind Dale II is a computer role-playing game by Black Isle Studios. It is based on the famous Infinity Engine created by BioWare.
The game is set in the Forgotten Realms Icewind Dale region, but takes place decades before the events described in R. A. Salvatore's books which made the area a well-known part of Faerûn.
Icewind Dale II uses the Third Edition rules of Dungeons & Dragons.
This patch adds numerous fixes, and some minor features.

If you try to create a party with more than one character at the start, you'll encounter a crash while the game tries to load the Prologue after you finish (related to .tot file compression).
There are two ways to get around this. First, you can create one party member, load the prologue, then go to character arbitrarion and create the other members of your party. Second, you can create your party members ahead of time before the prologue, then either manually export them (or progress to the crash, since IWD2 automatically exports your party members when you start a new game), then start a new game and import one party member, load the prologue, and then import the rest via character arbitration.
If you have a problem where you try to create a new party and start a new game, and the loading screen gets stuck around 60% of the way and doesn't do anything more (even if you create a 1-person party), then you have a *bad* issue.
To get around this, navigate to your Icewind Dale II directory. There, look in both temp/ and tempsave/. If you have a file called "default.tot", and it's very large (anything greater than 10 megs, and I've seen it go up to several gigs), delete it in *both* temp/ and tempsave/. Then, in temp/, create a new *empty* directory named "default.tot".
You should now be able to start a new game without problems and without a file that may potentially engulf your entire hard drive.
