Dark Colony

What works

Installation, single player campaign, multiplayer (both with human and AI), loading and saving progress, encyclopedia.

Sound: I had to set 'Hardware acceleration' in winecfg to 'Emulation'. Works well.
Graphics: 8 bit mode works ok, cursor graphics weird, but usable.

The game seems to run well when Wine is set to Windows 2000 (hangs up under Win 95/98, works with lags under Win XP).

I run the game with an ISO images of compact discs of the game itself and the expansion pack. No problems at all. Of course the CD's work as well.

What does not

16 bit mode doesn't work - game runs very slowly... I wasn't patient enough to see anything more than the main menu

In-game videos stop after some time of playback, freezing up the game.

Additional Comments

Although there are some minor issues, the game is still fully playable. The tested version was Dark Colony 1.0 + official 1.01 patch + Council Wars expansion pack. The hardware was a Compaq Armada m700 notebook.
