What works
vfw codec within virtualdub for decoding and encoding seems to work smooth
What does not
setup doesn't finish 100% correctly, but adding line to system ini like "vidc.XVID=xvidvfw.dll" suffices for codec registration I guess (installer still manages to install all files, it might depend on xvid build , I remeber that sometime ago it did everything ok)

speed is not bad, encoding from DV into xvid (bitrate at 1024 kbit) and lame for sound produced 10-15 fps (default settings) over nfs filesystem,far X session, athlon xp 1800+ 768 MB ram
