Additional Comments

First, I installed this at Windows XP, and had to patch to 1.17 (1.18 was buggy). It would ask me to reinstall the game while trying to run wine; I suspected it had something to do with registry keys, so I copied over the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arkane Studios\Installed Apps\Arx Fatalis] key and changed the folder value to point to the correct one (In my case C:\Program Files\ArxFatalis). Also had to remove the movie clip in misc folder, or else the game wouldn't run. Now, the menu is really slow (because of cursor trail, maybe?), but my saved game loaded fine. The game wasn't as smooth as in windows, some hitches here and there, but the graphics were glitch free AFAIK; the huge problem, that makes it basically unplayable, is that you can't turn around completely. THe turning stops at about the range of the mouse cursor, so I suspect the problem relies there.

With wine 1.1.27 you can fix the bug of mouse escaping adding a new string in the register. Open regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Wine, make a new key named "DirectInput" and n this key make a new string named "MouseWarpOverride" with value "force". Tested with both fullscreen and windowed modes with Arx Fatalis 1.18.
