What works

Software auto updates.

Normal chat features in AIM, ICQ, Yahoo.

File Transfers when BOTH parties have properly manually set up all port forwarding and firewall issues.

Minimize and Hide works on chat windows now (previously had bugs).

What does not

Viewing some preference screens will cause  Trillian to crash.  Effected screens are:  'message windows', 'Time Travel', 'History', 'File Transfers'.

Dragging a message window too close to the edge of the screen will make the desktop lose track of it.  The window vanishes and does not appear on any of your virtual desktops.  You must exit trillian and reopen it in order to recover lost windows.  Any messages that arrive while window is 'lost' are preserved in your scrollback history.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Any network besides AIM, ICQ, Yahoo.
Webcam features.

Additional Comments

Initial loading time for contact list still roughly 10 seconds on my system. Major improvement from the 30 it used to take but still worse than the 2-3 seconds it takes when I dualboot the same computer into WinXP and use trillian natively. The preferences you cant reach due to crashes can still be tweaked by manually editing the *.ini files, so the crashes are more an inconvienence than a hindrance.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO: Establish compatibility with Compiz / Configure preferences

A) Compiz-Fusion

Some compatiblity issues with Compiz-Fusion should be expected, but it runs really well with CF, too. Because Trillian ships with its own borders you might want to do the following:

1. Open "CompizConfig Settings Manager"
2. Go to Effects/Window Decoration/General
3. add !(name=trillian) to "Decoration Windows"

This will prevent the window decorator to draw its window borders. You will use all the compiz effects if you do this though, so you might consider keeping the window decorator enabled for Trillian.

B) Preferences

As the prefernces dialog is quite unstable, you can use the .ini files to configure Trillian. They are usually residing at:
/home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Trillian/users/global

C) Notes

If you loose your internet connection or if there are short interruptions, you might experience a lag between the connection breaking up and Trillian noticing that it is gone.
