WineHQ

Xfire

This version apparently adds more robust networking support (e.g. UPnP and UDP port opening) as well as supports more games.

What works

Install (still need to # ln -s /usr/lib/wine/msvcrt.dll.so ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/msvcrt.dll )

chat (Make sure you upgrade fontforge to one of the latest versions. I upgraded to 20060408, the latest ~x86 currently.)

view profile, add/remove friends, launch games, changing theme/skin (slowly, changed quickly and it crashed)

All the main "features" of xfire seem to work except for the main window (see screenshots for details)

What does not

Usernames on the main window still cryptic. (mouse over name to see all info)

Xfire windows are _always_ ontop. (If you "Allow the window manager to control the windows" then chat windows can go behind other windows, but the main interface can not.)

Sometimes when typing, text "hangs" like it ran out of room, but it is still recording all keystrokes. (not a problem if you know what you are typing, it doesn't like it when you get to the end of a line)

Sometimes artifacts are left on the screen.

Screenshot (CPU maxed out at 100%, manual break after some time to kill xfire)

Additional Comments

I recieved a comment to upgrade fontforge in my email, this upgrade did fix the font issues I was having. Many thanks! The main screen is the only problem currently, otherwise I would have given gold rating. The font there was not fixed by fontforge-20060408. I'm not sure why the main window doesn't want to go behind my other windows, but since it is easily minimized, it is not a major concern. Although it still doesn't ever minimize to my e16 iconbox, just to the lower left hand corner of the screen.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO

Xfire depends on a few dlls that seem to be needed in the system32 folder (if you are emulating 2000 or higher)

cd ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32

ln -s /usr/lib/wine/msvcrt.dll.so msvcrt.dll

You also need to install 'fontforge' to read chat windows to at least version 20060408

(pre 0.9.12)

Run 'winecfg' and 'Add application' Xfire.exe. Now go to 'Libraries' tab -> 'New override for library:' -> 'd3d8' and add it to 'Existing overrides', useing 'Edit' change to 'disable' or 'native only' and Xfire wil run.
