Vue 5 Esprit installed perfectly and runs well. It is very usable. You can use it for rendering static images, 3D scenes or full animations. The modelling tools all work well. Only a few issues as list in the "what doesn't work" section but nothing that I can't live with. I certainly will continue to use the application under wine. I tested and rendered the screen shot on PCLinuxOS with Wine 0.9.1 with no further issues.
What does not
Firstly, the OpenGL preview rendering doesn't work, the buffer order seems to get messed up and the windows get drawn in a random order. This isn't a problem just turn OpenGL preview off and build everything in wire-frame mode. I use this mode on all my PC's anyway as it is much faster to work in. The slide in and out menus on the left for creating primitives etc don't get drawn. I just turned them off and use the drop-down menu's at the top to access the same features. I tried importing some new materials that I bought from Vue's Cornucopia website but they didn't all work, I'm not sure why, I'll have a tinker and see if I can get them to load properly.
What was not tested
Plugins such as Mover, I'll try and get these tested shortly.
I also tested the demo version from the website which worked as described above. So new users can try it under wine.
