What does not
Random render freezing occurs and game must be force closed.
What was not tested
Hardware and and kernel is 4.8.13 on ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics with Intel i7 Q740. Game is installed from CD. I am using Nyergud's C&C Gold patch because it was the only way i got it to work under Wine. Using a 32-bit Wine prefix (installed from multilib) with the following settings for Winecfg: Windows version for C&C95.exe: Windows 7 Library overrides: none Graphics: emulate virtual desktop with 1024x640 I have directdraw (ddr) in Winetricks set to gdi The current (most relevant?) DLLs I have installed with Winetricks are: corefonts dsound dmsynth dotnet40 dxdx11_43 d3dx10_43 d3dx9_43 dinput8 dinput l3codecx mfc42 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 vcrun2015 vcrun6 xact xinput Other notes: With ccsetup.exe I have "Back buffer in Video Memory" and "Allow hardware filled blits" enabled. I believe (I think?) this helps a great deal with keeping the game rendered. Otherwise, it has a 50/50 chance of freezing when you pause or just in the middle of normal play and you will need to force close the window. It happens for me, so YMMV. Save frequently to ease frustration!
