Installing (tweak), playing

What was not tested
This is on an AMD64 platform debian/lenny with wine 1.1.42 grabbed from the lamaresh.net repository. The install can be performed by simply copy/pasting all the cd-rom files in a directory and going from there. Otherwise you may need to go through many hoops to avoid the non-umountable CD1 during the installation. I've had major performance issues, but those I can easily attribute to my fglrx. SEVERE graphics lag near water, in the ghost house. I had no menu issues (as others reported earlier), and the UseGLSL = "disabled" option created a lot of problems when used (up to Xwindows crashing and repeated GL outofmemory errors). fglrx is the (usual) suspect again. I DID have issues with a no-cd crack. The one I got from one of the very common sources did not work at all (the one that pops up the "insert cd" dialogue at the beggining). I found a "portable" version that seemed to work fine. I also used a large assortment of modifications that are provided from the "clan quest mod". No issues there either. Tested on a clean wine prefix with only fbo and videoMemory set. About 10 hours of gaming in it.

If you get the following error and performance issues:
fixme:d3d_surface:fb_copy_to_texture_direct Doing a pixel by pixel copy from the framebuffer to a texture, expect major performance issues
Adding the following Registry key should help:
HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D: OffscreenRenderingMode = "fbo"
Also if you have a black menu when the game starts, or graphic errors, you can set the following Registry Key:HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D: UseGLSL = "disabled"
(this also increases the performance strongly)
(see http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys for further information)
To force antialiasing in the game, run this in a terminal:
wine /path/to/your/Vampire.exe -game Unofficial_Patch
