Additional Comments

The wine bug which caused Battle.net problems for Warcraft 3 affected wtv too. Now this seems to be fixed and wtv runs like on Versions < 0.45

HowTo / Notes

Note

2013-05-03 Admin note: the instructions below were taken from a user comment posted in 2006, and may not apply to current Wine. They are being left here for the benefit of anyone who might wish to test and/or update them.

1.) Download Program, and Unzip

I will not go into detail about downloading here ;)

2.) Try to run ...
you can either navigate to the directory and type:

 leonhard@marvin ~/.wine/drive_c/wtv95 $ wine wtvClient.exe

or use wine paths:
 leonhard@marvin ~ $ wine "c:\wtv95\wtvClient.exe"

Note: If you use the first variant wtv will save it's config into your unix-home-folder.

Now the program should start and display you error-widgets telling you that "memory" and "wtv" are "no registred streams" which you can click away.
If this does not happen, read on ...

3.) This Application is requesting an ActiveX Browser
If you receive this "error" then you just have to install ActiveX. Wine will most probably show you a dialog which downloads and installs it automagically, if not please refer to other howtos (e.g. steam howto) on how to install it manually.

4.) Missing dll's
All needed dll's should be provided by the download, if there is still one missing check if theres a new download available or go to dll-files.com and download the needed dlls to the wtv-folder.

5.) WTV crashes as soon as the game-list is received ...
This problem occurs under several circumstances, for example if you have installed wine with debug enabled (which will not allow you to start wc3 anyway afaik, so no big deal here) or if you have set the wrong win-version (XP does it for me) or if you use a wine-version marked as garbage.
- set winver to 2000 or XP
- do not use debug
- do not use wine-versions marked as garbage
