What works

The game!

There is no overlighting anymore in the intro scene.

The blue swirls from the portal now show like they should.

Torches and flames are rendered correctly, perhaps still a little bit off near the base.

The Purple” transparent focus field" gets displayed correctly now.

Volumetric fog is visible.

The campfire at the start (Winter) now looks pretty good, looked more like a lava lamp in 0.9.31 .

The game is very stable, I did not have a single crash yet.

What does not

The sound skips a lot at the very start; at the intro. After that, I did not really notice sound problems again.

The Cell-phone still wrongly has a blue/purple “skin”. It seems some kind of 'overlay' is not applied.

The “Focus Field Circles” around NPC’s are off. They should be 'flat' purple-ish circles, not columns of light.

In-Game videos, still don’t appear.

While most other things work like a charm, this fact alone makes the game “unplayable”, since these videos are essential to the plot line and them not appearing means you miss a lot of context you miss a lot of the context.

Thumbnail screenshots for savegames do not show, instead there is just a black rectangle.

What was not tested

Playing the game from the start until the very end.

Hardware tested

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

Needs a no-cd patch to work , and needs to have d3dx_27.dll copied over to wine's windows/system32 directory. Also, will sometimes crash if sound is active, such as when Amarok is playing.

HowTo / Notes

These are the tips and tricks you must do in order to fully play the game at a way that is desirable.

1st - Install the game :)

2nd - Find and download the file 'd3dx9_27.dll' and copy that to your ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Funcom/Dreamfall Folder via terminal or File Manager.

3rd - Open up your terminal and execute this command - 'wine regedit' That should bring up a window. Follow these instruction as '+' means to expand that folder.

               Software +
                      Wine +

I may be wrong, but you may have to create a new key for Direct3D , but that's easy. Right click and go to new key and than fill in the supplied area with 'Direct3D'

Now finally go into the right part of the regedit where it says name and just under that right click and create another key name USEGLSL. When you're done doing that double click the file you just created and type disabled when prompted for a dialog box.
Don't close regedit for now you'll need it for the next step.

4th (OPTIONAL) - I've heard this from a few forums I've entered and it seems to do an interesting thing on the games I've encountered so I might as well share this information. It supposedly increases fps in games by bypassing the errors which are usually running in the background of a game. Inquiry into this matter hasn't been verified by me, but as soon as I run some tests I'll be sure to update ASAP.

Anyways This is how you acquire the effect.

Find a folder somewhere on your drive where you'd like to run a script for running a game each time you play it, preferably the desktop in most cases. Now that you've done that create a new document name '' and continue on to edit that file.

The contents of this file should be as follows

WINEDEBUG=fixme-all wine C:/Program\ Files/Funcom/Dreamfall/dreamfall.exe

Alright now save that file and now right click on it and go to Properties - Permissions - Click - Alow Executing of this file.

And that's all, if you follow these options effectively you should be able to play the game perfect or close to it.

Have fun!
