Almost everything appears to work.
I did a clean wine 0.9.57 install then simply ran wine setup.exe. The installer said it needed to install some system components and proceeded to install Internet Explorer. (BTW, The fasted IE install I've ever seen). The installer put an icon on my desktop for the application and a couple other icons that I just deleted.
After installation, I double clicked the icon and ran through the Setup Assistant wizard and answered the minimum number of questions. Nothing crashed and almost everything appeared to work pretty well.
During the Setup Assistant, Money wanted to display the help sidebar and Wine asked if I wanted to download and install the Gecko engine which I allowed it to do.
Report printing works fine except for the Setup... button on the Print dialog so it only goes to the
System Default Printer.
I opened a backup of my current Money data file and everything appeared normal.
Sound effects work! (Before I turned them off.)
Even browsing the web using the 'Money Browser' actually works! Not that I ever use that feature.
What does not
Printing checks is broken because the font sizes are way too big when printed. Editing the font size using the application's Print Setup...>Check Setup... dialog doesn't help and the dialog's font sample control displays the font too big also. One odd thing is that the font in the font sample control displays in a different color each time the dialog is displayed. Almost like the font info is not getting set to some expected default value.
The Help side bar does display but clicking any of the links results in a message box stating that Money 2002 could not display help.
Internet Updates appear to work for stock quotes but Money Updates are reported as 'No updates have been made yet'. That could be an issue with not using the real IE or MS may have stopped supporting updates for this version of Money.
Some message box text displays html tags. I guess it expects to be able to style the text in a message box. In some places in the UI it displays a %0 tokens between category names and subcategory names i.e. Food: %0Dining Out. The %0 is displayed in several other places through out the application.
There are occasional minor window redraw issues like windows that linger on the screen too long or a window background that goes black before being drawn.
What was not tested
I didn't do much in-depth testing so there are probably lots of areas not covered.
I gave this a Gold even though the font size issue prevents me from using Money 2002 with Wine. It installs and runs 'out of the box' with no dll overrides or other tweaking.
