What works

Almost everything except for district list.

Fullscreen works, maximizing the window too, making a Toon, playing on that Toon, reading news etc.

What does not

District list causes mouse lag.

What was not tested

Browser launcher - it's hard to make panda3d plugin work

Hardware tested

  • GPU:

Additional Comments

Disable d3d9 in winecfg (Section: Libraries) to fix textures. You can also disable d3d8 to make the game use OpenGL directly (setting it in game options doesn't work) Download the stand-alone launcher to bypass browser plugins: Admin note: rating changed to conform to the rating definitions.

HowTo / Notes

Get Toontown working with stand-alone launcher

First of all, you need Wine (pretty obvious). In theory, any version will do, but I'd suggest the newest, 1.3.17. (you should do this in a different wine prefix if also using other apps)

1. Get native wininet. "winetricks wininet" in Terminal should do.

2. Disable two libraries - Open Wine Config, get to the Library section, add d3d8 and d3d9 and mark them as disabled.

3. Get the standalone launcher

4. Install it.

5. Play!

If the game crashes right after you login, try "winetricks vcrun2008" in Terminal.

Optional: To get music working you need a software synthesizer and a windows-like soundfont (For example Roland Sound Canvas Tuned). Getting midi working in Wine is described in Wine wiki.
