What works

Installation works fine with the caveat, as previously reported, that the first display screen is an empty grey.  Hit and the install continues.

FB itself also works once you can see the application output (see further comments). I was able to execute my swf file via an external Firefox instance. I was able to get into the Flex designer although I didn't really exercise more than a couple of commands.

What does not

Getting FB's output to display is the main problem. When the app first comes up, you see nothing but a gray screen with a couple of functioning buttons. I imported a Flex project and still had a gray screen. I then added an MXML component (defaulting everything, just giving it a name). Suddenly FlexBuilder displayed everything perfectly. I was able to compile, execute, etc. without problems.  I then exited and reentered FB. I was back to the gray screen.  This time I had to create 3 different components before I could make FB display its contents.  I see no logic behind what I had to do.

Workarounds

What was not tested

I did not test debugging via FB.

Additional Comments

Ubuntu 9.04 comes with wine 1.0.1. That version of wine does not work with FB. It's only by happenstance that I found out that there was a much newer version of wine. The main issue with FB is figuring out how to get the application to display its contents. BTW, there is a 'refresh' option but it did nothing noticable. I am worried that I will have problems every time I want to execute the program. As I am a Flex developer, this would not be acceptable to me. As such, I am sad to say that I am going to continue using FB within a Windows VM. If anyone has insights into displaying problems and possible workarounds, I am very much open to assisting in the debugging of this issue.
