G6 U-Disk Manager

Submit Screenshot

Version 4 of U-Disk Manager was released at the same time as the G6 Lite hardware, but also works with the older G6 hardware. Version 5 was released in February 2008, but is very similar to the previous versions. Each version increases game compatibility for the DS, but they all install and work the same in wine, so are treated as one version.

What works

The program runs and displays the window to select the drive letter upon which the G6 is mounted. Selecting the drive will show the roms already loaded on the G6. Most buttons and dialogues seem to work.

What does not

The non-rectangular windows do not display properly. Big chunks are missing from the top of each window, and the areas that should be transparent around the edges are not transparent. Also, dialogue box and window layout is not quite right, with areas from the bottom and right edges being chopped off.

The app does not show up in the Gnome task bar, while it does in Windows. Also, the app window is always on top in wine, but not in Windows.

Most importantly, I cannot write NDS roms. Pressing Write allows me to select a rom and shows the option screen, but pressing OK here seems to make the application hang and eventually crash.

Workarounds

What was not tested

I did not test loading GBA roms, or fiddling with the options when attempting to write the rom.

HowTo / Notes

wine developers note: no G6 hardware needed to test this app

As a note for wine developers: You don't actually require the G6 hardware to test this app. The app communicates with the G6 hardware through a mapped drive letter, and no Windows device drivers are required (other than the usual USB flash drive mass-storage class drivers). When you start the app you are asked to select the drive that the G6 is mounted on. You can just select any drive letter upon which you have write access - it doesn't check that it is really a G6 or not. The app will make a GBA and an NDS folder on the root of that drive (if not already present). The app should not cause any damage to any other folders on the drive, but if you are worried you should make a drive with no other content on it.
