What works
The game plays in Karmic using the previous install method described.
One change, I had to use notepad.exe to create options.ini. Once the game is played a restart is required or sound is lost within wine, still trying to figure out what is causing this condition so it can be avoided.

It was garbage in 9.04, this is a significant improvement. It still isn't "good" but it is playable.
