What works
Installation, running the game, Sierra's and Relic Studios's adds, everything from graphics to sound, great framerate, multiplayer skirmish, moving ships around, assigning orders... basically every game function except internet play.
What does not
Apparently Homeworld thinks my keyboard is American (and it's not) so for some users this may be a bit confusing at first to find that the "M" key for example, doesn't work but that the comma key does the same thing (for a french keyboard). Changing key bindings is an easy fix ingame.
Internet play: the server isn't hosting anymore, not sure if that's hardwired and if it can be changed or not
For sound: other tests note that sound makes the game crash: removing and/or disabling pulseaudio COMPLETELY will do the job (if you're disabling pulseaudio make sure that it's process has died and doesn't come back; killing it doesn't solve the problem), Alsa will then take over and the game doesn't crash. Tried running the game with pulseaudio and got the instant crash, so I'm pretty sure this is the source of the problem.
Workarounds
What was not tested
Singleplayer play: the only problems I can think of is certain mission scripts not running under wine but this is very improbable so the most likely outcome is that singleplayer works as well.

Additional Comments
installed using different wine, generally Homeworld installs with nearly every wine version there is (I think turning sound on is necessary when doing this). As mentioned before do away with pulseaudio before attempting to play this game under wine. Patching homeworld works with other wine versions as well from the patch CD or a patch found on the internet. It is also very probable turning pulseaudio off will solve problems for users of Ubuntu and derivatives (of which Mint is one).
