What works
Installed and patched to V1.05 real easily, no trouble with activated Pulseaudio sound server. After 5 minutes in Regedit (see comments below), Homeworld works like a charm in 1600x1200 OpenGL with full details and full antialiasing (using nvidia-settings panel with my GeForce 7600GT) and gives me again long hours of space oddity =;).
What does not
The default game resolution is 640x480, and trying to change it in the game settings causes a crash. Workaround is to edit the registry (see comments below for details).

Additional Comments
Setting the desired resolution was, on my case, only possible through Regedit, thank to the post here cited: "by pete on Wednesday March 3rd 2010, 15:36 After installing, the default settings is software rendering with a resolution of 640x480. Trying to change this in the game made the game crash for me. I started regedit and changed the following under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sierra On-Line\Homeworld\deviceToSelect = d3d the keys found beneath, screenDepth, ~width and ~height explain themselves. Sound just works for me. I did install a directX 10 version before." For me, the only differences is I did install a directX 9 version before with Winetricks (for another game, not sure if it's needed) and that I had to set in Regedit, under the the same tree the value of the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sierra On-Line\Homeworld\glToSelect = opengl32.dll thank another tip from an user (but I do not found the post anymore). On an another PC, this setting worked better: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sierra On-Line\Homeworld\deviceToSelect = gl To be added: ------------ The Relic forum has a (still) active comunity on Homeworld and is full of useful infos... For exemple, commad-line options of the game: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=4731 These are working great: /disableavi /enableSSE /triple /pilotview (you enable the last one with Q taste, amazing) There is a free downloadable official demo version of Homeworld, a stand-alone installable and limited to 5 missions only! But the LAST of the 5 missions, named Raider Retreat (a real tough one, believe me...) didn't make it in the released Homeworld and is the so a MUST for all fan, also as a way to test (and play) the game for the new ones. Relic has made it public, so it's no warez I think (but verify by yourself, no responsability taken here!)... http://www.moddb.com/games/homeworld/downloads/homeworld-raider-retreat
