Nintendo 64 emulator. One of the best in terms of compatibility. This version is nearly five years old, but still provides some of the best gameplay available in any Nintendo 64 emulator.

READ IF: You have installed Project64 on your Windows partition.
When you load up Project64 for the first time using Wine, if it's installed in your Windows partition, it won't be able to load ROMs, because it's looking for a different directory. You'll need to point the program to the ROM directory in your Windows partition (generally /media/disk/Program Files/Project 64 v1.6) change "disk" to whatever your primary hard drive is named in your Linux distro.

Some comments on running Project64 on Wine
by Jeremy Newton on Wednesday June 15th 2011, 18:54
There shouldn't be any major issues running Project64 1.6 via wine 1.2 or 1.3, but there are somethings to note:

1. Some plugins rely on directx, thus installing directx is a good idea. You can install directx9 using winetricks:

winetricks d3dx9

2. There can be issues with sound, eg cutting out randomly. This has reported to be fixed by one following out of the following actions:

- Set Hardware acceleration in the Audio tab of Wine Configuration (winecfg) to Emulation.

- Use zilmar's Audio Plugin instead of Jabo's DirectSound Plugin

3. After exiting fullscreen mode, the window boarders typically disappear. Fortunately, this does not inhibit gameplay, but the boarders will return when you open a configuration window.

4. Project64 has a bug on wine, where the program will crash if you end emulation and try to open another game. Closing and reopening project64 before opening another game is an easy workaround.
