Old test results
The test results for this version are very old, and as such they may not represent the current state of Wine. Please consider submitting a new test report.
Selected Test Results

What works

  • Single user install.
  • Shared install.
  • Service install. See below.
  • boincmgr (local and remote).
  • boinccmd (local and remote).
  • SETI@Home Beta WU completed (failing validation on all platforms).
  • SETI@Home WU completed.
  • Uninstall. See below.

What does not

  • BOINC detects incorrect CPU details (running a Xeon but detects a P4).
  • Priority (niceness) not set.
  • Uninstall claims it is upgrading the application, but it removes all the files as expected except project directories (this may be intentional).
  • Printing the licence agreement fails and wordpad remains in memory.

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • SETI@Home graphics (running over SSH so couldn't test properly).
  • SIMAP (project temporarily unavailable).
  • Anything multi-core or multi-threaded (don't know if possible in this version - seems to be ignored).
  • Attaching to project manager.
  • Screensaver.

  • GPU:

Additional Comments

When installed as a service, BOINC closes when boincmgr closes. I don't think this is the intended behaviour. Needs testing on a Windows machine. Tested using X over SSH. No overrides. BOINC 5.8.16 SETI@home v7 7.00 windows_intelx86

HowTo / Notes

BOINC is available for your platform

BOINC is available for a wide array of platforms, and a lot of platforms are supported by the projects. You are probably better off asking a project to support your platform than using Wine to translate Windows calls.

It should be possible to use a native BOINC and run a Windows executable with Wine if absolutely necessary.

Test results for BOINC are still welcome as they help developers with Wine.
