What works
SA_2006ACT1.exe downloaded from the website (see below for more details) is a self extracting archive; in the default install of wine it works just fine, though when it asks where you want to install it, change the default (e.g. \AI_TEMP\SA_2006ACT1) to something valid (e.g. c:/SA_2006ACT1) and then copy that to a safe location (e.g. your desktop) as you then need to create a special .wine to actually install it.
I used ies4linux (2.0.3) to install IE6 (it creates a win98 version of wine) and then copied the ies4linux ie6 subdir to ~/.wine
When that's done, from the "simply" subdirectory of what was previously extracted, run wine setup.exe
when asked for serial, leave blank for evaluation.
When asked for edition (basic, pro, premium) I chose Basic for this test.
At the end, when asked, choose:
No, I will restart my computer later.
then run "wineboot"
When that's done edit ~/.wine/user.reg
find:
[Software\\Wine\\DllOverrides]
change all the entries to ="builtin, native" (or remove all entries as at least one of them will interfere with the next step, but I don't know which and it doesn't seem to hurt to remove them :)
run winecfg and add odbccp32 (default is native, builtin which works)
in C:\Program Files\Winsim run wine winsim.exe
Click the link to register on their website to get a key by e-mail.
It will ask to put a shortcut on your desktop; this should now work just fine :)
What does not
Without some native DLLs as well as probably dcom98 (installed by ies4linux as I recall) and some other things (which setup.exe conveniently installs proper versions of from its archive :) it wouldn't work. I was actually able to get it running without IE (though in setup.exe there was an error 0x80020006 as I recall), it will definitely not run properly without odbccp32 being set to native (try to open the default file once the program is running and you'll see the error in Terminal yourself :)
Workarounds
What was not tested
Only the Basic version was tested; premium and pro are options during the install.

Additional Comments
Downloaded from http://simplydownload.accpac.com/downloads/SimplyAccounting/SA_2006ACT1.exe (via http://www.simplyaccounting.com/ce/Trial/2006TrialDownload.asp) The program may appear slow suring certain processes or may temporarily appear to locup, but (unless you didn't tell it to use the native odbccp32) it isn't; just give it a little time and it will complete its action.
