The game runs and plays. You will want to be in an 800x600 video mode if it doesn't switch it for you as it seems to try running full screen. You do need the original CD in the drive for this stupid copy protection "try to read the many bad sectors" check for the game to start up. Some hacking should be able to undo that check so you can make a self contained VM to run the game if anyone wants to spend the time. I didn't. The CD works.
Wine on Linux is a great way to run this legacy game given that Windows itself can no longer do it. Happiness restored to an old Pandora's Box addict relative.
What does not
Sound is choppy, but I was running it in a VirtualBox VM in Windows so that may have been the cause.
Remember to download and install the 1.0a patch, otherwise the game will crash on startup.
What was not tested
Playing more than one puzzle.
Sound "worked" but the audio playback was choppy at times. But given this was a VirtualBox VM running on top of Windows I don't know who to blame there. Not important, we just turned sound off as it is not needed for the game play.
