Additional Comments

Had to set dxdiagn.dll to native, else the game would complain about a lack of 3D acceleration and not start. Also, setting graphical details to medium-high settings seems to have an adverse affect on the frame rate in exterior regions (interiors are much smoother). Shadows are dodgey, zoom out and they disappear entirely, zoom in and move, and they remain static and don't disappear until you stop moving. Unless I ran the game in a virtual desktop, I could only select 800x600 as a resolution. I managed to rectify this with the command: wine explorer /desktop=NWN2,1280,1024 nwn2.exe where 1280,1024 is my desktop resolution. I then removed window borders (kwin) and was able to set the resolution in game between 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280,1024. Setting the resolution as high as I could did not impact upon the frame rate in the slightest (from the looks of things). Playing on the lowest graphical detail otherwise, and the game runs very smoothly, indoors and out. I'd say it's very playable if you can handle low graphics fidelity.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO
  •  Use of dll overrides "devenum.dll" and "dxdiagn.dll" may be necessary for the game to run.
  •  Requires using winetricks to install directx9 and vcrun2005.
  •  The following registry key changes are recommended (Use the command "wine regedit" and then add them as strings to the appropriate directory):

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D]
OffscreenRenderingMode = fbo
UseGLSL = enabled
VideoMemorySize = 256

You may also put in whatever amount of memory your video card uses instead of 256.

  • To get the autoupdater to run, right click anywhere on the autoupdate window (except the status text part), and then click "dedicated internet connection". It should now work.
  • If you are unable to change resolution while using fullscreen mode, emulating a virtual desktop may be useful for getting the game to allow other resolutions.
