Its a somewhat convoluted install, with many issues along the way.
You need to be configured at XP
You can install if you use msiexec directly on the MSI. The autolaunch installer SwSetup.exe or anything else will not work.
You need to install IE6
You need to install Microsoft.Net 2.0 - this will not install correctly or work but it gets far enough along that solidworks thinks its there.
You need to install MDAC 2.6 (the last version that doesn't need verification).
You may need to manually kill a few processes near the end of the install. Its attempting to register a number of .NET assemblies and jams up.
After all that you can launch SLDWORKS.exe And create a new document. Also you can edit preferences.
I have not had time to hit on most of the features.
What does not
The opengl portion is currently buggy, and the opengl window is not
positioned correctly at the time testing with wine 9.25 and the current
It crashes if you look at it the wrong way. File Save or Open crash, as does extrude after a 2d sketch.
I ran out of time to do any real tracing of these bugs, but will monitor and attempt to report issues.
What was not tested
Anything that needs a real 3D model. Basic sketch seems to work, but extrude crashed it. I will attempt to dig deeper at a latter date
I tested .9.25 and GIT source on kernel 2.6.17 with NVIDIA legacy drivers (GeForce4 4200Ti).
