What works

Visual C++ 6.0 runtime files are required to get this software to run with almost no errors. Before running the software you need to have the runtimes installed. (see howto for details on installing.)

Exporting an Ebook to a 'local drive' seems to work fine. So if you insert the memory card and mount it within the Wine context as drive (default e:) you will be able to download ebooks without problem.

The application can load without error(see above), you can see the list of current books, you can delete books, you can register the software.

When selecting files to import, they files must exist in the WINE fake partition.

Generating an Ebook from HTML and TXT works fine.

What does not

If an incorrect version of Visual C++ runtime library exists, when creating a new ebook, the software will say 'x seconds elapsed' but will never actually create the ebook.

When trying to fetch an ebook of the z drive or save to the z drive (linux root) it fails.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Since their is no USB driver for my device for Linux and I am running the software as a user without root privileges, I was not able to test the internal web server of this software.

I did not test using the DOC format since Microsoft word is required.

I also did not test RTF documents

WARNING

If the software hangs when generating an ebook (ie says time elapsed but doesn't ever do anything), make sure you have the correct VC++ 6.0 runtime files installed. Generally you should see in stderr the following message, which indicates it is missing the runtime files and won't make an ebook:

err:module:import_dll Library MSVCIRT.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\GEBLibrarian\\RBTitlemaker.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library RBTitlemaker.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\GEBLibrarian\\PubUtil21.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\GEBLibrarian\\PubUtil21.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP60.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\GEBLibrarian\\PubUtil21.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library PubUtil21.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\GEBLibrarian\\PubX.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\GEBLibrarian\\PubX.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP60.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\GEBLibrarian\\PubX.dll") not found

The error will vary, but the result is always the same. No ebook is generated, and the above are seen.

I believe that if the wrong version of runtime exists you will have a never ending counter when you click to generate the ebook.

Note
When clicking the browse button in create ebook, wine generates 'fixme' warnings about file95 not being implemented. Don't worry about this, it works anyway.
