What works

Gibson sigh works for all (including most parameters under "What does not work")

  • blackout (except the mouse pointer)
  • desktop (same)
  • monoff (same)
  • logoff (it kills all running wine apps)
  • exit (same)
  • open - nothing
  • open=f: - nothing (f: is mapped to cdrom)
  • play=evil_laugh.wav and play=evil_laugh_2.wav (both public domain files from (http://simplythebest.net) - itermittent successes
  • quiet
  • graviton - screensaver works! However, performance seems pretty bad, and it is difficult to exit (repeated clicks and mouse movements, or keypress).
  • particles=x graviton - works for x=1, 20, 50
  • line graviton
  • grid=3,3 graviton
  • trails=20 graviton
  • gravity=200000 graviton
  • sun=200000 graviton
  • infinite graviton
  • elastic graviton
  • stop graviton

What does not

  • blank - does nothing, even though I have xscreensaver set up. I also tried with KDE's screensaver
  • autoblank= - nothing for both 0 & 1
  • standby - nothing
  • hibernate - nothing
  • reboot - kills all wine apps, but then pauses with:

    matthew@matthew-e1505:/prism$ wine wizmo reboot
    matthew@matthew-e1505:/prism$ err:wineboot:ProcessWindowsFileProtection WFP: shdocvw.dll error 0x7
    err:wineboot:ProcessWindowsFileProtection WFP: shlwapi.dll error 0x7
    err:wineboot:ProcessWindowsFileProtection WFP: urlmon.dll error 0x7

    on "reboot"
  • volume=1 - nothing
  • volume=100 - nothing
  • mute= - nothing for both 0 & 1
  • wave= - failed to verify when play= was working
  • shake=100 - still requires mouse click or keyboard to exit screensaver

Workarounds

What was not tested

Various combinations of the above. Also:

  • close - nothing
  • close=f: - nothing
don't work on my Windows install (because of my CD-ROM drive) so I don't know whether they'd work on wine. I'm guessing wine could handle them with an appropriate drive (since eject -t does that). I hope someone else with a dual-boot can test this.

Additional Comments

Prefecting this should be interesting, as the program itself is simple but it relies significantly on obscure apis.
