This is discussed here in the App DB, and in Bug 14797. Bug 14797 should probably be linked here also (and status changed to "confirmed"?).

When I try to use Pegasus to access my GMail account (using IMAP), I receive the following message

Profile 'gmail':



The IMAP server that manages this mailbox or folder has reported an error during the operation you have attempted to perform.



The operation cannot be completed.


I have set everything up the same as I have it set up in windows (I can run it fine in VMWare on the same machine).

I've tried this in older versions of wine and in the new release 1.0, with no luck.

Any ideas?

One more note, I'm curretly using Ubuntu 8.04, but tried it under 7.10 as well.

I've been running with a GMail IMAP4 connection without problems. I use my full email address as user name, 993 as the port, direct SSL under security and pretty much nothing else.

Now it does not work and I do not know why it worked before. It's obvious that the dll that provides the SSL/TLS support can't handle Wine for some reason.

with wine 1.0 rc1 I have the same problem than before. When I create a message Pegasus is closed after sending :-(

How about trying to use the preview mode instead of the classic mode. It appears when I'm using the preview mode and create a new mail message and send it tjhe program is NOT closed by Wine. Ubuntu v8.04 and Wine 1.1.2

I've been testing v4.41 and 0.9.54 and I can reply, and send new mail without the program "going away" if I have the classic reader open. I also went into the preview mode and can create a new message, reply and forward without a problem.

when Pegasus mail opens the main screen the program hangs and there is no way out of this other then restart the computer.
Since Ubuntu 7.10 the program is unusable under wine :-(

I'm running v7.10 and Wine 0.9.48 and it works normally for me. It had symptoms similar to what you described after the upgrade. I had to do a complete re-install instead of an upgrade and even there I had to setup the connection to the internet before doing the install. It's working quite well. The only major problem I'm having is that it's crashing on sending a new message. Replies and forwarding do not cause the crash.

not working here - I tried uninstall and reinstall but opening a mail lets the whole program hang. In full screen mode I have no access to Ubuntu desktop anymore... hard reset required.
Another problem: I cannot enter a username when I start a multiuser Pegasus.

Something is different here. Have you tried reinstalling Pegasus Mail? You can probably keep the mailbox directories but I would recommend replacing the program.

yes, I reinstalled the program. I tried to start with a new user mailbox. But I can try from scratch too...
no difference. viewing the About this folder message in preview and the program hangs. I cannot close it by any means, it also covers the desktop and I cannot get rid of it. Restarting Ubuntu seems to be the only means to clear it from my desktop.

I've been looking at this for some time now and I cannot figure out what I'm doing differently than you. WinPMail v4.41 and Wine 0.9.48 continue to work with very few problems. In fact the only problem I have is when sending a new message (not replying or forwarding) the message is properly sent but WinPMail closes without error.

my Ubuntu is out of the box, I updated it from faisty fawn. The only thing I changed is that I installed MS fonts in the meaantime.
Do you think this could make a difference?

I do not know if the fonts are the problem however I had problems with an update from v7.04 to v7.10. There are a number of things, including Mercury/32 and Pegasus Mail that were not working as you can see from my test report. I downloaded the distribution and put it on a CDROM and then did a new install of v7.10 and then installed Wine v0.9.48. After this completely new install it's been working like a champ.

Wine v0..9.48 was the clue. I had still .46 and it would not update from itself. When I forced the update, I got a missing public key error message, I installed nevertheless and now Pegasus works, with the same limitations than in feisty fawn: it closes when I send a message, change a user etc...
But I can read messages, recive and send, and I hope that the other issues can be ironed out in a future version of Wine.
Do you know if I can somehow make use of a server installation of Pegasus Mail? For my other workstations I have a network installation on a Synology NAS - is it possible to run the program from there?
I was not able to run pconfig.exe, it would not start - have to try again with the new wine.

I use the program DOSBOX to mount the ~\.wine\drive_c as c:\ for DOS programs. I then go to the pmail program directory and run pconfig.exe to modify the standalone HOME and NEW mail directory spec. I also use it with Mercury/32 on the linux box so I use pconfig.exe to manage the MERCURY user defined gateway as well.

I found dosbox in synaptic and installed it. How do I mount the drive?
When I open the dosbox emulator (found it in games) I get a shell with a
z: drive. You have already noticed that I am a real beginner in this system.

Try mount C ~\.wine\drive_c. This works for me.

ps: I tried to type mount c: ~\.wine\c_drive in Dosbox, but it says Directory ~\.wine\c_drive does not exist.

Then got to the file manage and find out the path to the directory. Mine is ~/.wine/drive_c where ~ in this case is root, yours may be different. You have to show hidden files (CTRL+H) to see the .wine directory though.

thank you, with your advice I was able to mount the drive and open pconfig.exe.
The path was /home/werner/.wine/c_drive. Thank you for Ctrl-H. helped a lot. I had to type it like above, not with backslash.
Now the next problem is to get access to my mailbox on the server.
the server path is:
192.168.2.100/public/pmail/mail/~8

but when I enter this path in the Dos box it is unknown.

Do you know how I can connect to my NAT device under Wine?

Sorry, no I do not. I'm not at all sure that the DOSBOX handles this format either. I would try mapping this path to a drive letter and then use the drive:\public\pmail\mail\~8 Not sure how to the the mapping either but I'm sure it can be done.

in the meantime I managed all necessary steps to permanently add a network directory to the system at startup, and attach a drive letter to this mounted directory in Wine.
I had to install smbfs, mount the drive in /etc/fstab and add the drive in Wine.
In pconfig.exe I changed the mailbox and new mail directory according to my settings.
Works fine, except the shutdown of the program after sending a mail.
But at least I can read all my mail on the netword now.

I hope the bug with shutdown can be fixed in the future.

Strange, it works for me. I also can reply to a message without WinPMail going away but forwarding without editing and send a new message causes WinPMail to "go away".

It appears that this is fixed with the new v7.10 version of Wine.

For me it is completely unusable. :-(
